Who are we?
We are a group of pharmacy professionals and university faculty whose mission is to provide ongoing medication education for all students, promoting lifelong, safe, effective, and responsible medication usage. Since we are partnered with the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC-SHIP), we also aim to provide patients with more knowledge about proper use of their medication therapies prescribed by campus health care providers.
Our goal is to become a knowledge base for medication education from topics as general as reading prescription labels and drug facts to covering specific medication information such as antidepressants, stimulants, herbal alternatives and oral contraception. Information and data we provide are based on credible information sources from governmental institutions, evidence-based guidelines, research groups, and consumer resources (for example, HON/Health On The Net code certified). All of our information is reviewed and verified by UC San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS) clinical faculty with supplemental resources identified for further information.
SSPPS faculty are part of the pharmacy group practice, Partners in Medication Therapy (PMT), a unit of SSPPS providing Medication Therapy Management (MTM) services outside of UC San Diego. MTM services focus on appropriate medication use and patient education to improve patient adherence and utilization of medications; increase proportion of patients meeting their treatment goals; identify and resolve drug therapy problems; and identify opportunities for medication and medical resource cost savings due to more effective use of drug therapy. SSPPS clinical faculty participate in PMT as consultants and/or direct MTM providers according to their clinical expertise. PMT also promotes community and professional partnerships that expand education and research opportunities for our students and clinical faculty, and enhance SSPPS community outreach.
